Officers attending this course will learn tactics, techniques and communication skills that are essential when interacting with members of the Hispanic community. The ability to verbalize and understand the body language of Spanish and Latin American cultures is an essential tool when faced with vehicle stops, arrest procedures, conducting investigations, diffusing confrontations and jail/correctional environments. Upon completion, students will be familiar with words, phrases and non-verbal actions that could indicate whether an encounter has escalated beyond the routine. It is designed to provide students with the opportunity to review and explore more in detail the materials provided in Basic Spanish I, with an emphasis on the correct pronunciation and use of key phrases used in a wide variety of scenarios. Additionally, students will spend the majority of class time dealing with scenarios in Spanish which will challenge students to control and handle simple calls for service. MANDATORY MATERIALS: Students should bring book and material from Basic Spanish I / Law Enforcement Encounters with the Latino Community . Students should also review prior material before class. Officers will learn basic bicycle patrol techniques in this course. Instruction will include safe bicycle operation, laws governing bicycles as vehicles, nomenclature, riding techniques, defensive cycling, nutrition, first aid, fitness, equipment repair and maintenance. Students will demonstrate competency through practical application of basic riding skills.
PLEASE NOTE: This course requires a moderate amount of physical activity.
Anyone with health concerns should consult their physician before attending.
Please be advised that anyone who cannot keep up will be dismissed from the class
to ensure the safety of the instructor, that officer, and all course participants.
Mandatory Equipment: Mountain bike (duty bike preferred) with foot retention device; approved ANSI and/or Snell bicycle helmet; shatter resistant eye protection; a pair of bicycle gloves; water bottle.
Mandatory Attire: Appropriate duty uniform (bike pants/shorts) or shorts (weather permitting), rain gear (optional), polo shirt, sweatshirt, sweatpants, lightweight pants, sneakers or low top boots, riding shoes (optional) and a pair of latex gloves.

This course will be devoted to the requirements for operating and maintaining a safe and secure detention facility, as set forth in Chapter 34 of the New Jersey Administrative Code. The "Cell Block Management" segment will review sound security practices and the minimum requirements for supervising detainees will be stressed. The "Suicide Awareness" segment will focus on such topics as the profiling of suicidal detainees, the screening and supervision of such detainees, the various ways in which detainees may attempt suicide, the liability factor and appropriate policy and procedures for handling suicide attempts.

*A five-day course of instruction which focuses on the documentation and processing of a crime scene.
Topics covered includes crime scene photography, proper evidence collection, latent print recovery, bloodstain recognition/documentation and shooting scene documentation. This course is open to UNION COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT AND MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS ONLY. Established in Memphis in 1988, CIT is an innovative police based first responder program that has become internationally known as the ?Memphis Model, providing law enforcement based crisis intervention training to help individuals suffering from mental illness. CIT is typically based in the patrol division of the police department. In addition, CIT works in partnership with those in mental health professions to promote collaborative efforts to create and sustain more effective interaction among law enforcement, mental health providers, individuals with mental illness, and their families. CIT has been shown to help reduce the stigma of mental illness. Most significantly, CIT has been shown to reduce injury and death to both officers and individuals with mental illness. Topics of instruction include recognizing and responding to mental illness, de-escalation techniques, tactical skills when words don?t work and legal issues such as warrantless entry under emergency aid and community caretaker function and officer responsibility/liability under the psychiatric screening law. Description: This hands-on course will offer instruction and drilling on basic fundamental movements and techniques geared towards female police officers, improving the officer’s knowledge and ability in the art of ground-fighting. We will cover the 3 main positions of unarmed self-defense: standing, top, and bottom, with the ultimate goal of placing the subject in handcuffs. The objective of this course is to arm the officer with the confidence to successfully de-escalate an unarmed encounter, without having to use mechanical or deadly force. This course complies with the rules and guidelines set forth by the NJPTC and NJ Attorney General's Office.

Course: From Dusk Til Dawn- Looking Beyond the Stop
This course was developed in hopes of giving the officer and first line supervisor more insight and additional
perspective when conducting proactive patrol operations as well as routine patrol functions. This three-day
course will take the officer-student from the initial response through the report to the Courtroom. The course is
designed for all levels of experience, but geared towards individuals assigned to patrol functions.
The student will be taught through classroom presentation and hands-on tactics to conduct safe motor vehicle
and pedestrian stops. The student will have the benefit of receiving instruction from experienced narcotic
officers and supervisors, who have conducted and supervised thousands of major criminal investigations. We
take great pride in our ability to translate our training, education, and experience into a practical classroom
presentation. Students will have the ability to see live footage of real incidents directly related to the information
being taught and correlating what they see to the classroom lesson.
